before TurboCAD, it received much more positive press about its low price, (approximately $600 originally), and quickly achieved a large and loyal customer base. But because Generic CADD launched in the U.S. Both TurboCAD and Generic CADD's marketing objectives were the same – create a viable, low-cost competitor to AutoCAD. TurboCAD was released around the same time as Generic CADD in the United States. The source code also fit on a single floppy disk along with the 30kb required by the " development environment": Turbo Pascal 2.0. The first version of TurboCAD fit on a single 360kb floppy disk so that it could run on the original IBM PC. Initial hardware support was for a specific device configuration: Hercules monochrome graphics cards, HP7475 plotters with keyboard for data entry. TurboCAD Mac Pro contains both 2D and 3D tools, while the standard version is for 2D drafting only. The Mac versions of the software are built on a separate codebase and are not directly comparable with the Windows versions. With the exception of TurboCAD Designer, the other TurboCAD releases support both 2D drafting and 3D modeling tools. Its 3D tools are TC Surface tools, and it has a limited number of architectural and mechanical tools.įor users needing only 2D functionality, there is the much less expensive TurboCAD Designer. The Basic edition contains a limited set of architectural and mechanical tools, whereas Platinum contains all the tools.įor less demanding users, a less expensive TurboCAD Deluxe 2D/3D version is available. Both editions can create ACIS Solids or TC Surface objects, as well as Surface Meshes.

TurboCAD Pro Basic and Platinum editions contain general drafting tools, as well as tools for 3D architectural and mechanical design. Pretty cool for taking a snapshot of a blueprint and getting some pretty accurate measurements.TurboCAD is a CAD software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting which runs on MacOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Also I can insert a digital photos jpgs, bmp and scale in the layout. It has some pretty cool tools that allow for measuring virtually anything. But mostly I use the program for floor layouts and measurements. The software also supports the use of the 3dConnexion () Pretty cool tool for orbiting your work. But you can basicly build an entire building from scratch or any type of complicated machinery you can dream up. I have played around with the 3d and Architectural parts of the program but not intensively.

I do have the tutorials for the 2d, 3d, 3D Helicopter and Architectural and they are very helpful. Also I didn't work with AutoCad so I can't compare but have heard from the IMSI users forum () that it has many similarities. I do run XP Pro so I don't have any experience with the Mac version of the software. 13 was skipped entirely and most users suspected they didn't want to have an unlucky 13 version.
